Red Dead Redemption 2 Players Discover Hidden Spider Web Mystery After Seven Years

For nearly eight years, millions of players have ridden past telegraph poles scattered across the game’s sprawling Western landscape without realizing they held the key to an elaborate puzzle that’s only now being uncovered.

The discovery started innocently enough in late December 2025 when a group of dedicated fans stumbled upon something unusual near the Heartland Oil Fields. A telegraph pole displayed a strange spider-like symbol that only appeared between 3 am and 4 am in-game time. Looking up during this brief window revealed an intricate spider web with a feather attached, which you could shoot free.

What’s more interesting is that this has always existed in Red Dead Redemption 2. Players have gone back to old save files and confirmed the spider webs were always there. The mystery managed to stay hidden for so long because the webs only appear for one hour each night at different times, making them incredibly easy to miss during regular gameplay.

The initial finding quickly evolved into something much larger. By overlaying the spider symbol onto the game’s map, players identified seven additional telegraph poles, each hosting its own web and feather combination. These poles form a pattern that leads to a ninth, larger web hidden within a tree at the center of the formation.

The Red Dead community, particularly those who frequent online forums dedicated to uncovering the game’s secrets, immediately mobilized to solve this puzzle. Working together, they discovered that the central web contained directional clues. The letter N appeared alongside a telegraph pole symbol, directing players northward to yet another pole.

Shooting this northern pole revealed more cryptic instructions hidden beneath its bark. The marking showed W with five crosses, indicating players should travel five poles west. Following these breadcrumbs led to another pole that, when shot repeatedly, exposed an inscription reading NW alongside what looks like a guitar symbol.

Unfortunately, the trail currently goes cold at this point, with the northwest direction and guitar symbol pointing toward Fort Wallace, where several guitars can be found. Despite extensive searching by hundreds of players scouring every inch of the area, no one has yet discovered what comes next.

With that said, this wouldn’t be the first time Rockstar has hidden elaborate mysteries in plain sight. The developer has included similar multi-step puzzles that require players to follow clues across multiple locations, and Red Dead Redemption 2 is filled with time-specific mysteries and environmental puzzles that have taken years to fully understand.

The game’s world is filled with hidden elements, including everything from from mysterious symbols on trees to supernatural encounters, that continue to surprise even the most dedicated explorers.

Rockstar Games has included similar mysteries in Grand Theft Auto V that remain unsolved to this day

For now, the mystery remains unsolved, but the excitement it has generated proves that even after seven years, Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to captivate and surprise its dedicated fanbase.

In the meantime, you can keep yourself busy exploring the other mysteries and landmarks scattered throughout Red Dead Redemption 2‘s massive world. Who knows what other secrets are still waiting for discovery afterall these years?
