Saddle Up Cowboys, Red Dead Redemption 2 Is Exiting PS Plus Extra Soon

If you own PlayStation 4 or 5 and you have an active PlayStation Plus Extra subscription and you haven’t played Red Dead Redemption 2 yet (or you just want a reason to replay one of the best games of all time again), now might be your best chance to return to the Wild West without spending extra for a while.

After being added to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog lineup back in May, the best-selling Rockstar Games title is leaving the subscription service soon.

If you head on over to the “Last Chance” section of the PSN store on your PlayStation, you’ll find an updated list of games that are leaving the PS Plus Extra library by month’s end. Red Dead Redemption 2 is among the games that will no longer be available to play as part of the PS Plus Extra lineup in two weeks. Red Dead Redemption 2 will be joined by Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, alongside 14 other video games.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most beautiful games on any platform to this day despite its age.

Red Dead Redemption 2’s campaign is long but worth every minute. It follows the story of the van der Linde gang and one of its former members, Arthur Morgan.

Similar with its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar released an online counterpart for Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Online. Unfortunately, aside from the occasional monthly updates, Rockstar has not been updating Red Dead Online. Instead, it is choosing to focus more on the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

PlayStation Plus, like the Xbox Game Pass, rotates games in and out of the service. In PS Plus’ case, it removes games when it refreshes its content library. So, if you’re enjoying your time with Red Dead Redemption 2, you’ll have only until the end of the month to finish the game. Or, you know, you could always just buy a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 now that you know how awesome it is.

Of course, this goodbye isn’t final. Because PS Plus rotates games in and out its catalog every month, Red Dead Redemption 2 could always return. This has happened to the game before. But it might be a while before Red Dead Redemption 2 returns again.

Besides, maybe Sony will replace Red Dead Redemption 2 with Red Dead Redemption in the Game Catalog. After all, it would be very fitting for the 2010 title to be added to PS Plus to help promote its upcoming release on PC on October 29.

The upcoming Red Dead Redemption PC port brings a host of graphical improvements and features to the award-winning title. It’s currently available for pre-order.

Speaking of Red Dead Redemption, one of Rockstar’s OG developers recently shed light on why the game performed worse on PlayStation 3 compared to the Xbox 360.
