Just as the weekend broke, news circulated that Rockstar Games has a “secret” project that it’s currently working on and might announce soon.
According to screenshots floating around online, Rockstar is working on a PS5 port of Red Dead Redemption 2, which would be awesome, except that there’s no proof of this happening right now.
The rumor appears to have started when someone took a screenshot of part of a profile of a new Rockstar developer that started working in the company in June 2023. As per the screenshot, the anonymous employee has worked on several Rockstar projects over the past year, primarily related to Grand Theft Auto Online. He was also part of the team that helped port Red Dead Redemption to the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
Despite being made for decade-old software, Red Dead Redemption 2 remains one of the most beautiful-looking games on the market.
The last part seems to be what’s causing all the ruckus, as many are taking it as a sign that Red Dead Redemption 2 is getting a PS5 port.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the best-selling video games of all time. Its PC port remains a thing of beauty and many have called for Rockstar to release a PS5 port of the game since the current generation of consoles have come out.
With the PlayStation 5 Pro expected to give games with noteworthy graphics a chance to flex their visual fidelity even more, it only makes sense for Rockstar to consider porting Red Dead Redemption 2 on the PS5 or, better yet, turn it into a PS5 Pro Enhanced title.
Very few games can hold a candle to how beautiful and optimized Red Dead Redemption 2 is for its supported platforms.
Unfortunately, there is no proof showing that Rockstar is currently working on such a project.
Based on the timeline, the screenshot isn’t referring to a PS5 port of Red Dead Redemption 2, but rather the re-release of Red Dead Redemption on PS4 and Nintendo Switch last year, which received PS5-exclusive enhancements.
The same port is currently en route to the PC, bringing Red Dead Redemption to the PC for the first time in over a decade.
Given how well Red Dead Redemption sold last year on the PS4 and the Switch, it’s possible that a commercially successful launch on the PC would give Rockstar a reason to consider “upgrading” the graphics of Red Dead Redemption 2 if only to act as a stop-gap and as a way to tide Red Dead fans over until it’s ready to reveal the next game in the franchise.
But for now, there’s no legitimate proof that shows that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be getting an upgrade for the PS5 or the Xbox Series S/X.
However, it is interesting that the same employee has reportedly edited the info on her LinkedIn, as per the original source.
Speaking of Red Dead Redemption 2, the game is leaving PS Plus next month. Finally, the latest Red Dead Online update is currently available for players to enjoy.
