Industry Insiders Reveal Telling Red Dead Redemption 2 Port Details

Multiple industry insiders have confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar Games’ critically acclaimed western epic, will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. The news comes from several well-connected sources, including NateTheHate2 and Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly.

In a conversation on X, the two industry insiders corroborated the information they have on hand about the heavily rumored yet unconfirmed re-release of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Both appear to agree that an announcement and release are imminent, but declined to give a specific date.

Red Dead Redemption 2, originally released in 2018, has been praised by casual audiences, critics, and streamers alike as one of the greatest video games ever made. The sprawling western adventure follows Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang through a meticulously crafted version of the American frontier in 1899.

With its stunning visuals, compelling narrative, and unprecedented attention to detail, the game has sold nearly 80 million copies worldwide across PlayStation and Xbox platforms.

The Switch 2, which features significantly upgraded hardware compared to its predecessor, would have the technical capabilities to run such a demanding title. It’s also a positive sign for Nintendo and its support for third-party titles after missing out on many AAA releases in previous generations, mainly due to hardware constraints.

As for the timing of the announcement, podcaster Kiwi Talkz seems to believe that Rockstar would probably prefer to announce the remaster on their own terms rather than wait for a Nintendo Direct presentation. Historically, Rockstar has dropped major announcements with little to no warning.

The bigger question would be, will this be a simple port, or will Rockstar take advantage of the Switch 2’s capabilities to enhance the game further? Early speculation suggests that the game will likely include visual improvements and potentially utilize unique features of this console generation’s more powerful hardware.

Either way, the financial implications of this release are substantial. Given the original game’s massive success and the pent-up demand from Nintendo players, many predict this could become one of the Switch 2’s best-selling titles. It would also signal to other major publishers that Nintendo’s new hardware is capable of running their most ambitious projects as the award-winning title joins the ranks of Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring, among others.

With multiple sources now corroborating this information, it seems only a matter of time before Rockstar makes the official announcement.

Fingers crossed, it comes with another content update for Red Dead Online, similar to the one that was just released.
