The Voice Behind Red Dead Redemption 2’s Rains Fall Has Died After Long Illness

Graham Greene, the talented actor who brought one of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s most memorable characters to life, has passed away after a long battle with illness.

While Greene had an illustrious career spanning over four decades in film and television, one of his most iconic roles is in Red Dead Redemption 2: Rains Fall.

For those who played through Arthur Morgan’s journey, Rains Fall represented something special. His character arc dealt with the harsh realities of Native American displacement, watching helplessly as his people were forced onto ever-shrinking parcels of land by an uncaring government.

Greene’s performance infused the character with genuine humanity. Players felt the weight of Rains Fall’s burden as he tried desperately to prevent his hot-headed son Eagle Flies from pursuing a violent path of resistance. The chief’s quiet dignity and measured approach to leadership created a stark contrast to the chaos surrounding Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang.

The character served as a father figure and moral compass for Arthur Morgan during the protagonist’s final chapters. Their conversations about mortality, legacy, and finding peace in a violent world stand out as a narrative high point for a game that has left many in tears, including streamers. Greene’s nuanced performance helped elevate what could have easily been a stereotypical role into something far more profound and meaningful.

Dan Houser, writer and Rockstar co-founder, had even previously praised Greene’s contribution to Red Dead Redemption 2 in an interview with Variety.

The best part in all of this is that this was actually Greene’s only video game role in his entire career.

As one of the first Indigenous actors to achieve mainstream success in Hollywood, he paved the way for future generations of Native performers.

Greene is survived by his wife Hilary Blackmore, daughter Lilly Lazare-Greene, and grandson Tarlo.

Speaking of Red Dead Redemption 2, the award-winning title is now one of two Rockstar Games projects that’s right up there with Grand Theft Auto V as among the five-best-selling video games of all time after tying Mario Kart in units sold. It continues to rack up sales ahead of the release of the long-rumored port on modern platforms.
