Despite being one of the most beautiful and beloved games ever made, there’s one glaring issue that Rockstar Games has stubbornly refused to address when it comes to Red Dead Redemption 2. But this is all changing later this year.
According to gaming industry insider Nate the Hate, who has an impressive track record of accurate predictions, the game will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 this fall.
This is good news for frustrated fans. Despite being available to play on modern consoles, Arthur Morgan’s adventures are still locked at the same 30 frames per second they ran at when the award-winning sequel came out in 2018.
For those who’ve been patiently waiting, the improvements should be substantial. Current-generation consoles have more than enough horsepower to run the game at a smooth 60 frames per second with equally impressive resolution improvements.
The PlayStation 5 Pro, with its advanced upscaling technology, could potentially deliver something much closer to true 4K quality, matching what PC players have been enjoying for years.
But what about the Nintendo Switch 2? Although it’s important to temper expectations, Rockstar’s track record with Red Dead Redemption on Nintendo Switch suggests that the game should run well enough to satisfy new owners of Nintendo’s latest console.
With that said, the fall 2025 release window means we’re still several months away from experiencing these improvements. However, we should get an announcement sooner rather than later.
The success of Red Dead Redemption 2, even without any next-generation enhancements, speaks volumes about the game’s quality.
Players, including streamers, have continued to explore the vast open world, hunt legendary animals, and lose themselves in Arthur Morgan’s compelling story for years.
Now, everyone will finally get to experience it in the best way possible.
For those who haven’t yet experienced Red Dead Redemption 2, this fall represents the perfect time to saddle up. And for the millions who’ve already spent countless hours in the Old West, it’s an excellent excuse to return. Because sometimes, the best stories are worth experiencing again, especially when they look and play better than ever before.
With this announcement, Red Dead Redemption 2 should continue its streak of topping sales charts despite the lack of updates from Rockstar (it’s come to the point that fans have petitioned to save Red Dead Online, again!).
