Rockstar Reveals More Details About Red Dead Redemption PC Port Ahead of October 29 Release

Red Dead Redemption, which originally arrived back in 2010 for consoles, is finally making its long-awaited debut on PC on October 29, bringing John Marston’s iconic journey to a brand new audience and allowing longtime fans to revisit the game with enhanced features and improved visuals.

Rockstar’s decision to port Red Dead Redemption to PC is one of the gaming industry’s worst-kept secrets after having been leaked by Epic Games and even Rockstar itself over the past year. Nevertheless, it’s a welcome release considering the 14-year gap since the game’s initial launch.

Following its initial announcement, Rockstar has put up an official post on the Newswire to confirm that the remaster is now available for pre-purchase on PC. But that’s not all. Rockstar is bringing back a couple of familiar gear at the Rockstar Store, including Red Dead Redemption Playing Cards and Liar’s Dice.

This is one of the rare chances that you’ll ever have to get your hands on limited edition Red Dead Redemption Playing Cards and Liar’s Dice.

The PC version of Red Dead Redemption isn’t just a simple port. Rockstar collaborated with Double Eleven to create a version tailored specifically for the PC gaming experience, which boasts a range of enhancements and features that take full advantage of modern hardware capabilities.

One of the most notable improvements is the support for native 4K resolution, with the ability to run at up to 144Hz on compatible hardware. This means players can expect to enjoy sharper textures, more detailed environments, and smoother animations as they traverse the game’s vast open world.

For those with ultrawide or super ultrawide monitors, the game will offer full support for 21:9 and 32:9 aspect ratios. This wider field of view will allow for a more immersive and engrossing gaming experience, letting players take in more of the beautifully crafted environments. Additionally, HDR10 support is included, promising improved color depth and contrast for those with compatible displays.

Also, while the original console version was designed with controllers in mind, the ability to use a keyboard and mouse should provide more precise control over movement or aiming, potentially enhancing the gameplay experience for those who prefer this input method.

On the more technical side, Rockstar has implemented support for upscaling technologies. The game will be compatible with NVIDIA DLSS 3.7 and AMD FSR 3.0, as well as NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation. These features should help players achieve higher framerates and improved visual quality, even on less powerful hardware. This is particularly important for a game that, while over a decade old, still has the potential to be demanding on modern systems due to its large open world.

Unfortunately, while Red Dead Redemption should look awesome on the PC, many still can’t help but feel sad that Rockstar has effectively abandoned the franchise.

After putting Red Dead Online on life support with bare minimum monthly updates, Rockstar still hasn’t released a PS5 and Xbox Series S/X update for Red Dead Redemption 2, which is a missed opportunity, especially with the PlayStation 5 Pro coming out soon.

The Red Dead Redemption Remaster will cost $49.99 to buy on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Rockstar Store.
